The Cranberry Portage Emergency Preparedness Team hosted an informational evening on May 12.
The purpose of the event was to inform the public about being prepared for major emergencies. Identified situations included forest fires, major snowstorms or hazardous-materials accidents.
Preparedness and prevention brochures were available for participants to take home.
About 50 people of varying ages met in the Cranberry Portage Royal Canadian Legion Hall for a supper and bingo.
Representatives from the local Emergency Preparedness Team, the Canadian Red Cross and the Cranberry Portage Volunteer Fire Department presented information on topics such as evacuation registration and procedures, “grab-and-go” packs, home emergency plans and fire safety tips.
Participants played 10 bingo games. Each number called included preparedness tips that were explained to the players. Prizes, donated by Cranberry Portage emergency personnel and organizations, were handed out to the winners.
