Bus service will run directly to the doors of the new North of 53 Consumers Co-op.

Flin Flon City Council received a letter from Tom Therien, general manager of the Co-op requesting that the bus stop in front of the Co-op property be moved onto the property. Therien noted in the letter that he had been asked by several customers whether the city would be willing to move the bus stop.

“We’ve had a request and certainly I’ve been approached by half a dozen people to do something similar to what we do at the mall site,” said Mayor Cal Huntley, referring to bus service to the Flintoba Shopping Centre.

“I think it makes sense with the new Co-op store for access.”

Municipal administrator Glenna Daschuk said Northern Bus Lines had already arranged to move the bus stop outside the Co-op property 200 feet to the west, as requested, and that another bus stop has been added at the door of the Co-op.

OneNorth

Council resolved to ratify an agreement between the City of Flin Flon and OneNorth/Missinippi Rail. Missinippi Rail along with Fairfax Financial Holdings have been trying to purchase the Hudson Bay Railway, port and other assets for months.

Coun. Ken Pawlachuk noted this is the first time the City of Flin Flon has been in partnership with a First Nations entity.

Funding

The Flin Flon Public Library and the Fireworks Committee will each receive $1,000 from the City of Flin Flon. Council resolved to provide funding to the library to help defray expenses for a library fundraiser held Feb. 10, 2018.

Code of Conduct

All employees hired to work for the City of Flin Flon will now be required to read and sign a code of conduct agreement prior to beginning employment. Council approved the measure during the May 1 meeting of council.

“I think it’s pretty common for employers these days to make sure that their employees are representing them,” said Coun. Tim Babcock.
